MHC_Hound_ pucker up02Over the past 15 to 20 years, the Foxhound, as a breed, has shown great improvement in conformation. Hound shows provide an outstanding opportunity to evaluate a Club’s hounds in comparison with other packs, to see the success of other bloodlines, and to determine the best breeding program for a particular Hunt. Shows are becoming increasingly popular, as are Foxhound performance trials, started by the Foxhound Club of North America (FCNA) in 2000.

Huntsman Jim Faber shows off one of several MHC Hounds who earned top ribbons in the Penn-Marydel Hound Shows this season!

The Marlborough Hunt Club hounds participated in 2 spring hound shows. The first was the 33rd annual Maryland Foxhound Show, hosted by the Green Spring Val-ley Hunt in Glyndon, MD on May 2nd, and judged by Linda Armbrust, MFH of the Blue Ridge Hunt and Norman Fine, long time editor of Covert-side. Both judged our Hunt Bowl a couple of years ago. Our star of the day was Queen Bee, who won her class over 9 other unentered PMD bitches. She came back to defeated Mt. Carmel's dog hound, Keeper, and earn the Best of Breed award. She was named by the Rabbitt family at our last puppy auction.

PENN-MARYDEL HOUND SHOW

The Penn-Marydel Hound Show was a success, continuing to earn MHC’s pack top ribbons. Special standouts go to Onyx.

The Penn-Marydel show, held on Friday, May 14th at the Fair Hill show grounds, was hosted by the Lewisville Hunt. The judge was Candace Way, an AKC judge who had previously judged this show a few years ago. MHC hounds placed in every class. The star was Onyx who took a first in every class he entered and was pinned grand champion in the registered PMD division. Onyx's sire, Kyle, only had the one litter. Although somewhat shy, he was a wonderful hunting hound. Unfortunately, He ruptured his cruciate ligament on an especially strenuous hunt from Windswept Farm. While recuperating from this expensive surgery he was bred to J Lo; Onyx and his litter mates were the result.
